WHAT WE DO
In a world full of buzz words and misleading marketing tactics, conscious shopping isn’t always the easiest thing to do. We've taken the time to research and vet brands and products that meet the highest possible ethical standards in manufacturing and distribution, because you should never have to worry about whether or not the brands you’re supporting are supporting their communities and the planet.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Here at loop & sew, we believe in the power of mindful consumption.
Being aware of the brands that we support and the materials that our products are made from go beyond effecting our daily lives. We also believe that every individual deserves to work in an environment where their livelihoods, physical, and mental health are protected always.
Our team is passionate about educating those around us on the very real environmental and human impact that their purchases as consumers have. We provide information on sustainable and ethical brands as well as feasible steps our customers can take in order to do their part in protecting our world.
MEET THE TEAM
Cristina (she/her) was about halfway through earning her BA degree when her sister Sarah sat her down and introduced her to the horrors of the fashion industry. She watched a documentary called The Deadly Cost of Fashion that covered the Rana Plaza collapse of 2013 that killed over 1,100 garment workers in Bangladesh that changed her perception of clothing production and consumption for good. Since then Cristina has made it a personal mission to make a change in the way she shops, supports brands, and to speak out about the injustices in the industry whenever possible.
The idea for loop & sew had been stewing in her brain for some time but had never come to fruition. She spent a year after publishing her own poetry collection promoting it on social media and was then given the opportunity to continue her work in marketing as a free-lance social media manager for a local company. Over the next year she put writing aside, took on more brands, and started her own social media agency.
Everything changed when COVID-19 hit. She lost 90% of her clients and made the difficult decision to quit her job, take a risk, and pursue her dream of owning her own sustainable boutique; thus, loop & sew was born.
Lorna (she/her) is the mother of two beautiful talented young women. Back in 2016 they were exposed to the Fashion Revolution which changed their lives forever. Before long they started to dedicate more and more of their time to the cause. Over time, their dedication, passion and desire to help the environment and those working in less than perfect conditions rubbed off on Lorna. Always open to new concepts and new ideas, Lorna has followed in their footsteps and has embraced these same goals.
After obtaining a BSc in Mathematics with minors in Drama and Psychology, Lorna went on to complete two years of post graduate studies in Computer Science. Since then, she has worked for the past 40 years in the IT (Information Technology) sector working her way up from a programmer to a manager.
On a more personal note, Lorna has written three science fiction novels, one which was self published. In addition to working full time and helping to ensure loop & sew succeeds, these days Lorna spends her spare time planning for her next novel, learning as much as possible about genealogy and reading about inspiring women from history.
